Savile Enquiry

Ever heard of the Salem witch trials?
We've have our own version today
Every 70s star of a certain age
Accused of behaving in an inappropriate way

Not unrequited

She holds out her arms -
To comfort you when you’re blue

She holds out her arms -
A ragdoll needs love too

Little Miss Know it all

You stand there, so young, so wise
Watching the world through mocking teenaged eyes

Mother dearest

There's nothing like shopping for dulling the spirit
Making you realise that comfort food has a price
That it's not just your mother's smile you inherit
When you can't fit into your usual size

Rivalry

I would not like to be only and lonely
But sometimes being a sibling's no fun
When you are constantly wound up, looked down on
Tickled, punched, teased, chinese burned, overruled and outrun
When your doll is a victim of horseplay
and teddy's arm comes off when your brother plays ball
Given the choice of being an only or sibling
Well...
I wouldn't change it at all*

*(but my teddy might)

The Contest

"Ring!"
The bell goes
Seconds out
He adjusts his costume
Nervous
Sweat drips into his waistband

"Ring!"
Referee
Stands aloof
Eyes fixed on the event
Ready
To intervene when needed

"Ring!"
Figures move
Strangest dance
They spar and clash with words
Duelling
They fill the time allowed

"Ring!"
Speed date ends
Couples split
To write secret scores in peace
Wait now
To see if someone liked them

Transposing Trapeze

Audience watch them swing in silence apart from the sudden gaps

London 2012

The feats of lycra clad giants on screen
With taut bodies of muscle and flesh
Bear no resemblance to any sports that I've seen
When gym knicker clad in white aertex vest
So when did my sports day hell
Turn to an Olympic cheering swell?

Mr (not) Right (now)

They say that we've each one perfect partner
Someone to suit us down to the ground
So where's mine?
Who's got him?
What happened?
Was I not there at the right time
Not paying attention?
Not listening?
Just messing around?

Now maybe the cliche's outmoded
And isn't now actually true
But, Mr Right,
I'm tired of waiting
What on earth has happened to you?

False advertising

There's someone for everyone out there
You say

I believed
But you lie

There's romance, young love and white weddings
Portrayed

You deceived
And I cry

As the actors are lovers only while they're paid a fee
So we only glimpse what you want us to see

Poor Mr T

It’s the season of colds and of flu

Hands so cold that they start to turn blue

When your nose won’t stop running

You know summer’s not coming

And Narnia just, after all, might be true.

To lie behind
Deride behind
Cast your opinion to the tweeple
Then cry behind
